Queering the glass ceiling: alpha females, cyborgs, and the non-tenure track in science

This inquiry into the nature of feminist solidarity in academic sciences is guided by intra-activity gendered bodies teaching-intensive faculty positions. It uses diffractive methodology to examine how response-able research practice can account for enactment social discourse through agential cuts. Over course a two-year ethnography university with high activity, gender performativity contested space feminized teaching and masculine science was analysed. article aims make visible researcher subjectivities entangle data collection. Results show specific cuts – alpha female, silencing, less-than-person, squashing passion, staying get tenure illuminate unique pattern. The pattern troubles structural notions solidarity, as ethnographic participants marginalized institutional hierarchies survive queering it. Furthermore, gestures towards humble, local, tentative contribution post-human theorizing on ‘queering glass ceiling’.
